[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:13] Speaker B: I have a lot of topics to say. Hello. Welcome. Welcome, welcome. Hello. [00:00:22] Speaker A: Hello, welcome. Wow. [00:00:26] Speaker B: That was pretty on par. That was pretty in sync, not gonna lie. How are you doing? It's a Tuesday, guys. [00:00:31] Speaker A: Pretty much expected. [00:00:33] Speaker B: We're recording this Tuesday. [00:00:35] Speaker A: Holy crap. I guess I totally forgot that we had a three day weekend and I thought that it was Monday for some reason, but it's Tuesday. [00:00:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:00:45] Speaker A: Thank God. Yeah, Things are good. Things are a. Okay. Work is going really well. My house is very clean. [00:00:53] Speaker B: How was Labor Day weekend? So you did a lot of labor is what I'm hearing. [00:00:57] Speaker A: Labored. Yeah, labored away. I actually did quite a bit of research on my string of pearls plant and my money plant, the Chinese money plants that I have told you about. Anyway, I've been doing a lot of research about how to keep my houseplants alive because they're very finicky and they're easy to kill. [00:01:20] Speaker B: And your house is so dark. [00:01:21] Speaker A: So, yeah, things are good. [00:01:23] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:01:23] Speaker A: My house is also so dark. I actually got like a cabinet right outside my office here that has like the grow lights and I moved them in there so it's got like a little bit more air quality or air quality, temperature is the word that I'm looking for. Okay, nice. More temperature control. Because my house gets frigid. It freaking snowed in bend. It's only September 8th. September, people. And it freaking snowed. [00:01:50] Speaker B: It's still summer if people are not keeping track. Yeah, it is some summer until September 22nd. I do not understand. But yeah, we had a crazy weather weekend and it did kind of come out of the blue. I mean, like we're back up to the 70s today. And then. But it still gets cold at night. Like this morning. I think it was like 42 when I got in my car. But yeah, over the weekend we were camping and it snowed on us twice. And so yeah, we had a long three day weekend, but it was very chilly. It was very out of character. I mean, even for us. I know we're gonna have like a gnarly winter. I just like feel it coming. I just like feel it in my bones. And I'm getting deeply, deeply depressed about it. But it is what it is. Last night, since it was so cold over the weekend. We like went out to mud club last night because it's Monday, you know, Monday, my club. And I only wore. I wore jeans, like preemptively, like, oh, it's like summer still. But like I'm wearing jeans because it's 70 degrees outside. It was fun freezing. I was wearing a T shirt and I was like, I already. We're already in the time of the year where I have to wear a jacket and bring a jacket wherever I freaking go. So, yeah, it is what it is, but it's okay. I'm hoping that we just get a little bit of like 60s 70s weather for the next couple weeks at least until, I mean, we were talking about it today in my office. Like October 2022, I believe we got our first snow. Um, and that winter was atrocious. Like, not gonna lie. And so I'm like, oh, we're already in September. So like, damn, this is gonna be a gnarly one. But we need it, obviously. Last year was so poor, but I'm just like, already preemptively, like, hurting on the inside because I know what those snowy winters are like and I haven't. Like, last year was not a real winter and it was my first winter. Like, commuting to the office every day, previously being remote every day. And so I'm just like, very, very, very stressed a little bit about. I mean, my commute is like, so short. But like, it's just a matter of like, it's more risk, it's more everything, you know, like going out in the weather and driving in the weather. And I hate it. But whatever it is what it is, we'll see what happens. We like, the only thing is with weather we can ask for telework, which is really nice. And so I'll just hopefully be able to do that a couple times this winter. We'll see. Fingers crossed. But who knows? I don't know. [00:04:07] Speaker A: I looked. [00:04:08] Speaker B: Not gonna drink. [00:04:08] Speaker A: Apparently the El Nino is going to be hitting the Pacific Northwest this season or 2026, 2027. And it said something about it being like, warmer temperatures. So maybe snow in January, February, March. Okay. Like maybe early 2027. But yeah, now that I'm driving over three different bridges, I can't imagine waking up at 5:30 in the morning and doing that. Every day is going to be. That's just like asking for trouble. Right? Like, statistically speaking. [00:04:38] Speaker B: Right. Thankfully, you guys only get like, ice, ice warnings and snow very, very infrequently. But yeah, it is kind of terrible to think about. I'm sorry, I won't stress you out about it already, but yeah, it's already. It's just another. It's another reason for you to move to Washington. I guess that's like. Yes, it's another plug for you to not commute. So Far. I mean, for gas and everything else in the car, but yeah, also for winter. [00:05:03] Speaker A: Talking a lot about the market in Portland and, like, what's moving fast and what's not moving fast and getting the house appraised. So we've been kind of, like, thinking about starting that journey, but honestly can't even wrap my head around the fact that we are getting to fall, and I'm just, like, not. I'm such a fall girl, and I'm not really prepared for it, if I'm honest with you. [00:05:23] Speaker B: Yeah. What are you doing? [00:05:25] Speaker A: Nothing. I just cleaned the crap out of my house, and I started pulling out all of my, like, like, sweaters and stuff like that, but they haven't made it to my closet. They were just in the hallway upstairs. So one step at a time. [00:05:41] Speaker B: Yeah, literally. [00:05:42] Speaker A: But, yeah. [00:05:43] Speaker B: Wait. [00:05:44] Speaker A: Thinking about maybe a Halloween party or trying to do, like, a wine tasting thing, which would be fun, but I don't have any concrete plans. [00:05:51] Speaker B: Sorry, go ahead. [00:05:52] Speaker A: You were gonna say. [00:05:53] Speaker B: I was just gonna say that Practical Magic comes out this week. Right. I was gonna look up the actual date. Practical magic to everybody. Wait, what day does it come out? [00:06:05] Speaker A: It's, like, in two days. [00:06:05] Speaker B: I thought it was. I thought it was, like, the 13th. No. Am I wrong? [00:06:09] Speaker A: I think it's the 11th. [00:06:10] Speaker B: Oh, my God, you're right. September 10th is playing here in Bend. Why? [00:06:17] Speaker A: Oh, it's September 10th, not the 11th. [00:06:20] Speaker B: Yeah. That's what I'm seeing here that day. [00:06:23] Speaker A: But. Okay, fair enough. [00:06:24] Speaker B: Yeah, but so random. Okay. This leads me into, like. I feel like practical magic is, like, totally in our ether because, you know, we talked about doing, like, the midnight margaritas and, like, whatever. We kind of did do that when Sam. [00:06:35] Speaker A: It's, like, one of my favorite movies. Yeah, for sure. [00:06:37] Speaker B: Yeah. It's fun. Such an iconic movie. Also, who just told me they've never seen Practical Magic? I can't remember. Someone told me this weekend, and I was like, that's terrible. [00:06:46] Speaker A: Sad, Human. [00:06:47] Speaker B: I know. But I do not have high hopes for this one. Like, I'm not gonna lie. I don't think it's gonna be good. But there is a group of girls that's, like, going to see it next weekend or whatever, or maybe this weekend. And so. But I won't really be around to go. But anyways, I. This brings me to my, like, new topic that I want to propose for the pod. Is that I want to do what? TikTok fact of the day or something? Like, TikTok find of the day or something. Because Yeah, I just find that I learn and obviously, please take it with a grain of salt. Like, I know that not everything I learn on TikTok is true and valid and to be real, whatever. Like, I understand that. [00:07:26] Speaker A: QAnon follower. [00:07:28] Speaker B: No, this is an actual fact that I learned today that I am shooketh about speaking of practical magic. [00:07:34] Speaker A: Shooketh? [00:07:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:35] Speaker A: Do we need like a drum roll or something? Just like, yeah, literally. [00:07:39] Speaker B: You know how old Sandra Bullock is? Do you know? [00:07:43] Speaker A: Oh, she's definitely in her 50s, but she looks like she's 36. She's incredible. [00:07:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I'd like to say, like, phenomenal. [00:07:51] Speaker A: D1. [00:07:53] Speaker B: No guess. Okay, guess one more time and then I'll give you her real age. Like, you're not gonna guess it. [00:08:01] Speaker A: 58. Oh my God. [00:08:03] Speaker B: No, I know. She is 62. [00:08:07] Speaker A: What? [00:08:08] Speaker B: Isn't that so confusing? Like, how is she so she is beautiful. I know. I mean, I feel like beautiful. Like, even her skin. I mean. And the thing is, is that she does not look like she has, like, had facial reconstruction. Like, she looks incredible. Yeah, she just turned 62 in July. She is an icon, like, literally. Also, she's been like going across like all the podcasts and she was just on good hang and talking about her husband, like, that was such a wild journey. Like, I can't believe she didn't even tell her friends or anything that she was like, helping him. [00:08:47] Speaker A: My God, that Jesse. [00:08:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Did you listen to any of the podcasts about it? [00:08:53] Speaker A: Anyways, No, I need to go listen. I haven't been back with Amy in a minute, so I need to go back and listen to some polar. I'll go and listen to this one, though. [00:09:03] Speaker B: Yeah, it was really interesting. I mean, basically, essentially she just like removed herself. So her, I guess he was her ex husband, but it was like her children's father and whatever. But he was diagnosed with als and so he didn't want her to tell anyone. And so he was just like silently dying and she was his caregiver throughout all of it. And she didn't tell anyone, like, not her, like, oh, friends, like, not family. Like, no one knew. And she was just silently, like, grieving this situation and going through it all alone and like figuring out how to do it all all by herself. Anyways, it sounded terrible and I can't believe she didn't age so so much. Like, just in that time period. But yeah, she is phenomenal and I think she was one of the producers actually, actually on Practical Magic too. But anyways, go listen to the podcast with her it was very interesting. She was also on smart lists with the guys and that was actually like a decent one because they're like kind of annoying. They kind of get like annoying with. They just like talk the whole time instead of the guests. But I do love all of them so much and I love Sean Hayes the most. And anyways, but her talking about it on there was very interesting and yeah, very inspiring. She is a very incredible human being. But anyways, that is my tick tock. Fun fact of the day is that Sandra Bullock is 62 years old and looks phenomenal too. She is gold. [00:10:24] Speaker A: Looks great. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Hardcore goals. I just love that so much. But this leads me into like, she is like definitely a legend, an icon. But it. I wanted to like roll this into this other movie that I just watched in another podcast that I just listened to was Gal Gadot. Do you like Gal Gadot or Gal Gadot? However, she said her name was Gal Gadot on Armchair Expert, but I think. [00:10:47] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:10:47] Speaker B: Everyone calls her Gal Gadot, right? [00:10:50] Speaker A: Yeah, Gal Gadot, Gal Gadot, whatever makes the most. However she pronounces it. Like, she would be the authority. Right? That's her freaking name. So Gal Gadot is, I guess, how I'm gonna move forward with my life. Yeah, I, you know, she's beautiful. I think she's a really talented actress. I don't know enough about what I could potentially disagree with her about, so I'm just gonna leave it at that. I think I have a lot of respect for her. She's obviously famous and gorgeous and wonderful. People love her. [00:11:19] Speaker B: Interesting. Like, I did not even know if I would she existed before I listened to that podcast with her. Like, I did, obviously. [00:11:26] Speaker A: She's definitely been around for a while. [00:11:28] Speaker B: I know, I know that. But like, I, like, I'm not into like, she was Wonder Woman if people don't know. Keith Flair would know that. But. And I don't care about Marvel stuff. [00:11:40] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. [00:11:41] Speaker B: She wasn't though. [00:11:42] Speaker A: Not really. [00:11:42] Speaker B: I don't know. Anyways, whatever. But. So she was. She's in this new movie that's called the Runner right now and it's on Amazon Prime. [00:11:50] Speaker A: It's. [00:11:51] Speaker B: It just came out on September 2nd if you want to watch it. It actually was really good. The beginning was like, kind of lame, I'm not gonna lie. But like, stick with it because the storyline is really good and the ending is like, very surprising. And like, I did not expect it at all. But she's like. I was like. So I feel like, you guys, if you've been around, you know that Matt and I, like, don't like the same kind of tv. And we don't watch a lot of TV together because we don't understand each other's tv. Anyways. And so this was something where I was like. I listened to her on the podcast, and, like, Dax Shepard said it was a good movie. So I was like, I can watch this. And so I sent him the, like, trailer for it. I was like, let's watch this. And so we're, like, watching it. And he goes, oh, yeah, Gal Gadot or whatever. And I was like, how do you [00:12:32] Speaker A: know who that is? [00:12:33] Speaker B: And he was like, oh, she's my, like, number one celebrity crush. And I was like, what? And I. I was like, I've never even heard this person. He's like, she is Wonder Woman. And I was like, okay, I've never heard of her. Anyways, it was just, like, so mind blowing because Kelly, like, I. I don't know. And, like, I don't know. I. I just, like, fascinating that that was his, like, celebrity crutch. Don't you think that's funny? No. She is beautiful. No, that's not. [00:13:00] Speaker A: That's not surprising. Tons of people have been in love with Wonder Woman since the dawn of time. Like, she's a tall Amazonian, beautiful, strong, with long hair, and, like, credit where credit's due, she's gorgeous. That's not surprising at all. That. That would be his, like, Hollywood crush. [00:13:16] Speaker B: That's funny. I don't think so. [00:13:18] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:13:18] Speaker B: I know. [00:13:18] Speaker A: But, you know, something like, I don't know, Winona Ryder or, you know, Helen Bonham Carter. I'd be like, well, that's interesting. You know, that's a little bit more goth than I would put in his character, but okay, you know, But Dalga is, like, classically gorgeous. [00:13:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, I guess. I don't know. Anyways, it's just nothing. That is not. Whatever. It doesn't matter. That's not what I expected. That's all. [00:13:50] Speaker A: But it got me more of, like, a Heather Locklear because she's blonde and you're blonde. Or, like, who would you want him to have a crush on? How do you want him to have. Is, like, your favorite. His favorite Hollywood crush. [00:14:02] Speaker B: I don't know. Acceptable. [00:14:04] Speaker A: You know, with Hudson, you have a very much Kate Hudson. My. [00:14:08] Speaker B: It doesn't have to be related to me at all. It's just like, you know, when you ask guys that question, there is, like, [00:14:12] Speaker A: Jessica Elbow or, like, Yeah, I don't know. Just feel. [00:14:15] Speaker B: But yeah, or like Scarlett Johansson or something. They're, like, always the same, like, five women. But, like, Gal Gadot is, like, so random, so I'm, like, very proud of him for really being Kim Kardashian. No, no one thinks Kim Kardashian's cute. Disgusting. [00:14:33] Speaker A: Okay, fair enough. I feel like all of the NFL and the basketball professional pro balls would be, like, very much disagreeing with us, but whatever. [00:14:41] Speaker B: Yeah, okay. Anyway, she has a big butt. That's it. And it's not real. So, anyways, but I was gonna say, is that now, like, thinking about Gal Gadot, and then I keep saying Gal Gadot, but. Because I know we keep saying it. Whatever. My, like, new celebrity crush that I did not know that Keflor now knows because I've sent it to her multiple times, but I am obsessed right now. And this is also, like, not on brand for me because I don't like, like, brunettes at all. I love right now, Joe Jonas. I am, like, on such a Joe Jonas train. [00:15:15] Speaker A: It's, like, unre. And sending me tick tock videos about how they can't pick which Jonas Brothers arms to stop looking at because they're all just so buff on stage without their shirt on. [00:15:28] Speaker B: They are looking incredible, right? I mean, like, Nick is, like, the. The least cute of all of them, but, like, the other one, I just crack up. Kevin, because he's just, like, so ridiculous on stage with this little guitar, like, all of them, like. Or Joe and Nick just, like, dance around the stage with, like, their little mics and, like, whatever, but, like, Kevin just stands there with his, like, bass guitar, and he, like, walks around, like, with his bass guitar, and it's, like, so ridiculous. But anyways, so I watched too many Jonas Brothers videos at this point and like, them in concert because they're on tour right now, and I am obsessed with Joe Jonas, and I just need everyone to go listen to Burning up for Me when he's a cowboy because it is, oh, so attractive. It's, like, ridiculous. He sings. [00:16:14] Speaker A: That is shocking. I am straight up shooketh that your new celebrity crushes Joe Jonas. What a table. Are we back in 2016? [00:16:23] Speaker B: That is why I'm bringing it up, because I am also shocked. I do not understand it. He is. There's just something about him. And, like, it's so funny because in the concert, they, like, it's still so, like, Disney Channel and ridiculous because they, like, literally, like, spray him with water for the Burning up song. And I'm Just like, oh, my God, it's so bad. Like, I hate it so much, but at the same time I'm just like, how does he sing like that. Like, I feel like I need to show. I think I feel like I need to show what I'm talking about because, like, you will not get it unless you hear this. Like, hold on, let me find it really fast. [00:16:55] Speaker A: Because obviously the only thing Kelly Miss is missing is like a sequins ponytail and like her Lisa Frank book with her. [00:17:04] Speaker B: Oh, my God. Don't be mean. [00:17:06] Speaker A: Alanis Morissette Binder. [00:17:07] Speaker B: Don't be mean. Okay, listen to this. Hold on, hold on. Get ready. [00:17:19] Speaker A: Okay, don't worry, everybody. We're gonna put in a better clip than. I'll find one. Oh, my God. [00:17:25] Speaker B: It's like, you know. Okay, you guys, you don't know what you're missing. He is stunning. Stunning, everybody. [00:17:36] Speaker A: Anyway, all right, what's next on your list of topics that we can chat about? [00:17:41] Speaker B: That's just like the end of my little rant of like, this is what I did at work today, everybody. Actually, you want to know how productive I was at work? I redid my registration. Okay, first of all, I didn't realize last year in December 2025, apparently we all voted to raise our car registration. Who did that? Who signed that? I didn't. Who voted for that? Because it wasn't me. There was a notice when I went to re up my registration today because that was very upsetting. It's okay. It's still so much cheaper than California. Like, I paid for just like fancy comparison. Yeah, I pay for the fancy license plate even. And it is a two year long registration and it is a fraction of the cost. It is so crazy. I paid 170 today for two years in California. I was paying 250 or like 240 something for one year. So. [00:18:34] Speaker A: Yeah, she just paid upwards of like 540 for her 2024. Rav. [00:18:41] Speaker B: Yeah, the new cars are so much more. Yeah. Holy. That's terrible. [00:18:48] Speaker A: Awful. [00:18:49] Speaker B: That is really bad, actually. [00:18:50] Speaker A: I need to. Need to make that happen, actually. What else did you do? You were super productive today. [00:18:56] Speaker B: Oh, my God. Well, okay. I kind of want to make this my grievance. So what's crazy is that we have a super tiny airport here and the TSA pre check line, there's literally zero humans in it versus like three humans in the normal, like security line when you go through, through the airport. So it's like not a big deal, but it's like when we're like coming back or like, we have transfers or whatever. We really need TSA pre check. And then Mateo also has pre check. And so then I'm like, no, you have to stay in the normal human line with me because I'm not gonna stand. [00:19:23] Speaker A: Absolutely not. [00:19:24] Speaker B: Yeah, I was like, you can't go over there. No, he is standing with me. I am not standing by myself just because I don't have pre check. Anyways, so I've been jumping through these hoops trying to get TSA pre check. It is so freaking irritating because we have a tiny, tiny ass airport that they only week, every, like four months to our airport. So I've been trying to get on the freaking schedule to get TSA pre check. I'm not even kidding. For eight months. And it sells out. And like, why do you have to [00:19:51] Speaker A: go to the airport? You should be able to go to, like, your staples or like your local place to get just fingerprinted. Why do you have to go to the airport? [00:20:00] Speaker B: That's not what it's telling me. That's not what the TSA pre check website is telling me. It only is allowing me to. To go there. [00:20:09] Speaker A: Yeah, when I got mine, we, my husband and I both went to just Staples. We just like walked in and had the quote unquote appointment. And then they just like. Yeah, it took me like two weeks to get it all done. [00:20:22] Speaker B: Oh, my God. Anyways, the next closest place is like Eugene or Coos Bay to get TSA pre check according to like my location or whatever. Right. I'm like, Portland is closer than that. Anyways. [00:20:34] Speaker A: Like, Bend is a big city too. Like, that's not like the biggest airport, but it's still an airport that people are flying in and out of every day. Like, I know with it Bend. [00:20:42] Speaker B: Doesn't that seem strange? Anyway, so it's been a whole grievance too. Yeah, so that's my grievance for the day for sure. But anyways, so I've been trying to get on the schedule for so long and it opens a month before, like, they come, and the next time they're coming is like October 23rd or whatever. So I'm like, been waiting and waiting the last four months because I couldn't get in last time because there was no appointment appointments available left. [00:21:04] Speaker A: Whatever. [00:21:05] Speaker B: So now, anyways, yes, I have an appointment to get TSA PreCheck, don't you worry, before we go to Hawaii in November. But yeah, it's just really annoying. I even set like my alarm and everything for that day to wake up so I can get a fucking appointment. Because that's how insane it is to get freaking TSA Precheck. So anyways, I also did that today. And then also I got like started the process on getting my passport renewed because it's freaking expiring in April 2027, which is coming up real quick. And I know it takes forever. The only thing is, is that another just like, silly fun part of this game is that I need my passport to go do my TSA PreCheck thing. So I can't start the whole process until I do the whole TSA pre check thing. So anyways, it's fine. Everything's fine. It's just that, you know, everything just connected. [00:21:50] Speaker A: Super productive. [00:21:51] Speaker B: Yeah, anyways, but yeah, I mean, you have to do that this far in advance at this point because. Jesus. Anyways, so yeah, I just spent a lot of money today on stupid adult shit that shouldn't happen, but whatever. And I also worked a full day now, my eight hour days because we're on that stupid new schedule. But anyways, yeah, that's where. That's where we're at right now. How are you? [00:22:15] Speaker A: Good. [00:22:15] Speaker B: That's all I had to say. [00:22:16] Speaker A: I'm really proud of you for being productive. We went on a whole like Kelly, Sandra Bullock. [00:22:22] Speaker B: Wow. [00:22:23] Speaker A: That is a shocking fact that I will carry with me for the rest of the day. [00:22:27] Speaker B: Thank you. Do you have your TikTok packed of the day off the top of your head? [00:22:31] Speaker A: I haven't think of one on Tick Tock today other than to watch the videos that you sent me, but I like this. I will try to catch up on my Tick Tock videos and listen to Amy Poehler. I'll go on a walk after this or something. Yeah, things are fine. They're good. Let's move on. I want to talk a little bit about a sad note. I'm sorry to like bring it down. Gloria Steinem died. [00:22:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:56] Speaker A: Do you. I mean, your mom texted us a really cool podcast that I ended up listening to and I'll probably like share it when we share this episode maybe tomorrow. [00:23:05] Speaker B: Okay. [00:23:06] Speaker A: But like, I gotta tell you, when I was, let's see, 15, 16, I was on a family vacation. We were like stuck in the Crown Vic, which is a really old cop car for those of you who don't know. We were coming home from like Gilroy, California to like the middle of nowhere where I grew up. And my dad made this like flippant joke about feminism and feminists and he was, you know, I was like, really Curious about. I was like, what are you talking about? I don't understand women who burn their bras and these, like. I don't know. My dad just made this really flippant joke, and he's not a bad person. He just made this joke, and my mom kind of piled on top of it, and she was like, oh, well, you should just look up Gloria Steinem. And so my introduction to her was kind of, like, through the lens of the cultural milieu of Republican sentiment. And then it kind of blossomed in this huge admiration and just obsession. I, Like, I did my high school senior project on her. I've had pictures of her on every phone that I've owned since I was in high school. I think she really speaks to the equality and rationale behind just treating people with basic respect. And, like, I don't know. It really irritates me that my first interaction with her was somewhat comedic and, like, making fun of her, belittling her, and it kind of ended up defining me and my independence and, like, the young woman that I am today. So it's just really hard when you have somebody like Dolly Parton and then you have Gloria Steinem. And they. She was very Vocal in the 2016 presidential election, which is kind of like. I don't know. I like to think that I subscribed. We shifted universes and realities at that moment in time. I'm just trying to survive. So, yeah, I just feel like it was really hard, and I want to give a lot of gratitude. Maybe if you can have a grievance. I'm gonna have a gratitude to Gloria and. And Dolly. If you. I don't know. If you listen to the daily. It's the New York Times podcast. It's. Yeah, don't worry about it. It's very interesting. I listen to it every day. And they had an episode on, I think, Friday of last week where we talk a lot about. Or they were talking a lot about the Juxt. Juxta. The juxtaposition between Dolly being kind of embodying that feminist icon without being an outright, quote unquote feminist. Right. She was also. She was always so very careful about not associating herself with, like, that movement. And then you have somebody like Gloria, who is, like, the patron saint of feminism, both doing the same thing and advocating for equality in other people and, like, the impact that they had, having a lot of mutual respect for women. And, like, that doesn't happen anymore, you know? [00:26:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Very real. So I just, like, really sad. It is really sad. I mean, in Losing them, like, a week apart is like, ugh. So heartbreaking as well. I feel like a lot of people, too, were saying, because, you know, it was Dolly. And then I always forget his name. The guy from Rocky. Tim Curry. Tim Curry. And then they were like, who's gonna be the third? And then it was Gloria Steinem. And I was like, what the. But I mean, much different. Not much different, but, like, Gloria Steinem was 92 or 94 or whatever, and Dolly was only 80, and so was Tim Curry. And so I just don't feel like that's old enough. But anyways, I want to give credit to you because, honestly, when we. I didn't know very much about Gloria Steinem, and I can remember, like, very vividly one podcast, we're like, talking about Influential Woman. Influential Woman. I think it was like, maybe like an International Women's Day or International Day of the Girl or something. One of those days. And International Day of the Girl. [00:27:07] Speaker A: Love it. [00:27:08] Speaker B: We used to do a lot with that when I was in the Peace Corps, because lots of third world countries don't take care of their women and their young girls. Anyways, right? It what we were talking about One of those Days, I think, on the podcast, and you had mentioned Gloria Steinem, and I was like, who's that? And then my mom, like, texted us, I think, after listening, and she was like, I cannot believe. Or texted me. She's like, I cannot believe you said you don't know who Gloria Steinem is. Like, you need to look into feminism. Anyways, all that to be said is, thank you for introducing me to her. Thank you for bringing it to the forefront. And then also just, like, being excited about influential Women. And, like, still to this day, like, you talk about it, and we have like, our little, like, Heroes side quest podcast that we do and stuff as well. But, like, I think the really cool thing about Gloria Steinem is, yes, she was a feminist, but also, like, her form of feminism was not women doing everything. It's giving women the right to choose. And so, like, she was very much like, if you want to be a homemaker, you can be a homemaker, because that is your choice. If you want to go to work, you can go to work, because that is your choice. Feminism is not about women doing whatever the man does. Women is getting the choice to do what the man chooses to do. And so I just, like, really appreciate that about her is, like, people think of her as this, like, kind of like a negative feminist, whereas I think she was more just like, why can't we choose just like men get to choose? And so I really think wish that that point was, like, driven home more. And so, yeah, that's just like, my little two cents on the whole situation, especially today. [00:28:44] Speaker A: There's, like, so much on the online about. And we talked about the manosphere. We talked about how male epidemic loneliness is. [00:28:52] Speaker B: Is. [00:28:52] Speaker A: Is definitely a thing. And so, like, there's this big vitriol against feminism and like, this movement that happened when the whole point of the movement to begin with is just to give people the. The equality, the respect that they deserve, acknowledge that they're contributing in the way that they can con, you know, can contribute, and don't just strip them of their rights. Like, a woman's body is a woman's body, and that is her, her and her doctor. And I don't know, I just. I feel like there's so much more to feminism than what people generally think about it. It's not just about being female. It's about having the ability to choose right, choose your own path, and have the same rights and abilities as those around you, regardless of their gender, their race, or, you know, their background. There's just, like, this level of equality that is literally written in our laws to not exist. And they've pulled back Roe v. Wade, they're pulling back the civil rights movement. And this is so much more than just feminism. It's. It's like the fabric of our democracy is just being dissolved in front of us and spat upon. And it's just really sad to know that somebody who was a big proponent of that and a big supporter of carrying the legacy of these different acts, just to watch them kind of dissolve right now is really disheartening. So try not to let it really bum me out. But. But, yeah, I'm genuinely excited to see who hopefully from our generation or smarter people who are younger than us, can like, recognize how important and how influential she was to. To carry on that torch a little bit. I don't really think that there's an easy answer for us to, like, say, oh, so and so is this person's glorious. This generation's glorious dynam. [00:30:39] Speaker B: I know we don't really have any [00:30:41] Speaker A: of that for that quite yet. [00:30:43] Speaker B: Yeah, totally. And it is kind of sad. I mean, I think that we have just gone so beat down with this current administration and what I don't know, even, like, you know, Senate and House members that are running for this midterm election. I think that, like, we have a few women that are in there that's incredible. But yeah, it just feels like we just have to like go with like the easiest get right now. And that's like a white man male, unfortunately. And that's just like really upsetting to say, but it just doesn't seem like we're ever going to get to that point where like we have a woman, like have more women in power, more women in politics, like all that kind of stuff. It just doesn't seem like it's going to happen. We need to just like get it. We just need to get to the point where, yeah, we are not totally dying and drowning. Okay. You know how I said I want to do like a tick tock fact of the day? Well, I also have like a tick tock conspiracy theory of the day just for funsies. Because this is like where my funsies is. Where my algorithm goes to is that they, you know how like our economy cannot be worse. Like, housing market cannot be worse. Job market could not be worse. We're like. What's it called? What's it called? Unemployment is like at an all time high. They're reporting it at like 4%, but it's actually at like 54. Whatever. Okay. All those things. Things. But like, they know that the Democrats are going to win a lot of the, the House and the Senate in the midterms. And so they're like projecting for 2027 to like, the stock market is gonna finally crash because all these like, big corporations are being supported by this administration at this time. And so when all the, the Democrats go into office like next spring whatever whatever in 2027, they're totally going to crash the market. So that it looks like like we did, like the Democrats did this and that there. Anyways, that's good and real deep into scary territory. But yeah, it just like makes sense. Yeah, yeah, it just like is valid right now in this time period. And then like all the project, what's it called? Project 2028 or whatever. What's that thing called? Never mind. Okay, we're not getting into that. [00:32:57] Speaker A: 8. They keep changing it. It was like Project 2020, Project 2025, and now it's Project 2028. I don't know. They keep changing it. Yeah, it's whatever the like the GOP agenda, right? Like that's like their doctrine or their manuscript at this point. They just keep changing it. But I will say, like. Okay, I wanted to say two things. One thing about this administration that I think is hilarious and my cousin sent this to me, so shout out to Summer. It's Totally cured my imposter syndrome to a degree. [00:33:30] Speaker B: Right. [00:33:30] Speaker A: Like if these incompetent, terrible, terrible people are able to do what they're able to do, like there's only a matter of time before the next generation comes. Right? We've been playing this game for how long have been humans have been alive. Our country is only 250 years old. Democracy has never seen like there is not a representation of what democracy could be in human history as it is built today. Like we, I still have a lot of faith and optimism when it comes to our systems because laws and systems can be changed. And this is kind of like a more of a Hillary philosophy, I would say. But we can't change people's hearts and their thought process and like how they feel. But we can change the systems that human men made. Like men made these laws. It's just a bunch of contracts. There's the social contract that we don't have in writing. There is the, you know, the actual constitution. And the systems like the DOJ and the FBI are capable of change. We've seen that happen how fast, right? In this one short period of time that they've had control in a 10 to, let's, let's argue 15 years. Yeah, it super sucks like in the moment. But I have full faith that whether or not I'm alive or not, like the, the system is not gonna be this way forever. I think that there are a lot of people who feel the same way that we do. And the laws are meant to be changed and they probably will be and strengthened. And we're going to walk away from this, this horrid moment in time, get back on the right dimension or timeline and kind of write the ship. Because I, I have faith in humans more so than what these guys think that they're gonna get away with. I just, I can't wait for retribution. Like I'm, I'm very excited to see them get their comeuppance because it's gonna happen. It's probably not gonna be the way we want it and the depth that we wanted, but it will happen. History will write them the way that, [00:35:39] Speaker B: you know, I trust you. [00:35:41] Speaker A: That's how I feel about it. [00:35:42] Speaker B: Wow, really off topic. Anyways, I didn't mean to overshadow Gloria Steinem because she is an icon, she's a legend. [00:35:51] Speaker A: She'd be so proud of us. Just like expanding on these more philosophical, optimistic kind of views in the world because we shouldn't feel burdened. We can still talk about Joe Jonas's amazing Bicep and Gal Gadot. And still talk about some pretty interesting, compelling stuff because it's coming up. November's literally only a few months away. [00:36:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Everybody, please vote. I was just trying to think, like, where my ballot was gonna go to. I do not know. So I need to figure that out. [00:36:18] Speaker A: I have a few things. [00:36:19] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, go for it. [00:36:21] Speaker A: So, okay, I want to talk about the series that I watched on Apple TV called Dark Matter, and it's sci fi. So, like, I'm sure you're. You're not gonna watch it, but. No, I have heard of it from Blake Crouch. Like, it's really good. It's got Jennifer Connelly in it, who is also classically beautiful. We've named, like, the top three most beautiful brunettes in Hollywood. I would say Gal Gadot, Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Connelly. [00:36:51] Speaker B: No, I mean, I know. I was trying to think of what other movie do I love that she's in? I've watched it like, a million times. What is it called? I can't remember. It's like, where her husband's cheating on her and her husband is Bradley Cooper. What movie is that? I love that movie. [00:37:08] Speaker A: He's just not that into you. [00:37:10] Speaker B: Is it that one? [00:37:11] Speaker A: I love that. Scarlet Johnson. [00:37:14] Speaker B: Speaking of the devil. God damn. Yeah. That's such a good movie. I'm sorry. It is. Did you ever read the book? [00:37:19] Speaker A: We picked some pretty good names to drop in this episode. Yeah, no, I never got. [00:37:23] Speaker B: Sorry to interrupt. No, okay. [00:37:24] Speaker A: I do remember that was being a big thing, though. No, you're fine. Anyway, Dark Matter was really good. They're gonna make a bunch of other Blake Crouch movies and series and stuff, so Shonda Rhimes picked up one of them, which is gonna be interesting. I don't know if Shonda Rhymes has done a lot of sci fi. Anyway. Yeah, other than that RIP Gloria Steinem. She is iconic. I feel like I should get it. I don't know, something more permanent. I should go find my 8th grade history project. Anyway. [00:37:54] Speaker B: Does she have any, like, iconic, like, words or quotes or anything? [00:38:02] Speaker A: So many. It would be really hard to. To go and pick one. I can come back to it or maybe I'll post it on social media or something. But, like, one of the most iconic things about her, she had those crazy glasses. Glasses, right. Like, total 70s vibe. And she had the bangs. She had the really long hair. She was a co creator of Ms. Magazine. And for those of us who grew up on magazines like Teen Vogue, Vogue, elle, Mary Claire, 17. I read a lot of Elle I raw. Yeah, so lots of stuff. Those magazines wouldn't have existed without Ms. Magazine. That was the first. Yeah, I love that one publication in the US So. [00:38:50] Speaker B: Oh, my God, she has so many good ones. [00:38:51] Speaker A: A lot of topics. [00:38:53] Speaker B: Can I just read one of them or one or two of them to you? Yeah, pick a couple. 1. Once we give up searching for approval, we often find it easier to earn respect. Oh, that's a good one. Let's see. I like this one a lot just because, like, I've heard it before. Many of us have raised our daughters more like our sons, but too few has raised our sons more like our daughters. Yeah, baby. [00:39:16] Speaker A: Yeah. That's a good one. [00:39:18] Speaker B: If feminist means anything, it means taking responsibility for ourselves, for our own lives and actions. It's not women as victims, but women refusing to be victims. It's a very good one. [00:39:29] Speaker A: That's a good one. [00:39:30] Speaker B: Nothing will happen automatically. Change depends on what you and I do every day. I think that was a big thing with her, too. Is her just, like, saying that, like, everything is, like, from the bottom up, like, change happens on the streets. And she was like, very much. I think you talked about this before, but she was very much just like. Especially with, like, the 2016 election. She was very hands on the ground, like, we can have impact. Like, we can change this. And so, yeah, she's so iconic. [00:39:55] Speaker A: She was a journalist by trade, so she was a voracious, like, gatherer of stories. So she spent quite a lot of time talking to women about abortions, women about sexual harassment in the workplace. She supported a lot of unions that were, like, nursing unions. She spent a lot of time organizing women led conferences and speaking about just equal rights. And so there was some. She's always been a big proponent, I would say, of the cultural mal. What's the word I'm looking for milieu, and how that stems a fervent emotional reaction to elections and whatnot. So she's just been a little bit more of that groundworks kind of individual, which is why her and Hillary Clinton get along to a degree anyway. Yeah. And I'd say especially with, like, the Black Lives Matter movement, I know that there was some like, like, misunderstanding that she was comparing and using feminism's association with that. I don't know. But I. I don't think that that was her intention. I think that she wanted to support them in. In that ground, like, ground level. It's so important to be organized and, like, see that mission come through legislation. And there was definitely a lot of things to be won from that movement, but they're not done, and neither is feminism. So I don't know, it's just like, kind of a lot to talk about in a very high level top podcast I highly recommend watching. Well, maybe just reading a couple of things from her just to get started. For me, it was the Playboy magazine article that she did. It was like her first big, splashy headline. She did an op ed for the New York times in, like, 1963, where she went undercover as a Playboy bunny in the. The New York club. And, you know, it's just so proud. Like, it's so prominent or it's so relatable in today's time because everybody, like, finalizes or thinks about how cool it is to be a Kardashian or whatever. Maybe that's a bad example, but there was so much happening in that club. Women had to go, like, through vaginal exams. They had an insane amount of sexual harassment happening. You had to wear the stupid leotard thing. And so if you were off or if you gained 10 pounds, they would take it out of your paycheck. Like. Like that. That's just insane to me. Like, that's just not how people operate a club. That's so dehumanizing. So, like, that was a really. And it's kind of a fun article too, because they talk a lot about a cheeky stuff. So anyway, go read that one. That one's a fun one. But listen to her. She's on so many podcasts. Oprah has a lot of podcasts, you know. [00:42:50] Speaker B: Amazing. Well, we are just grateful for her. Yeah. That's my gratitude for the day. [00:42:58] Speaker A: Wow. I went on a really weird topic. I love Gloria Steinem so much. Yeah. [00:43:04] Speaker B: All right. Really? [00:43:04] Speaker A: Pardon. It just makes me really sad. And Tim Curry. But I'm grateful for them. [00:43:09] Speaker B: Absolutely. Let's get out of here. All right. We're both gonna go outside. [00:43:15] Speaker A: Like, weird, random adventure. [00:43:19] Speaker B: Adventure. [00:43:21] Speaker A: Weird topic today, but that's okay. [00:43:24] Speaker B: That's it from us. We love you all so much. [00:43:27] Speaker A: We love y'. All. [00:43:28] Speaker B: Bye. [00:43:28] Speaker A: Thanks for being candid. Bye. [00:43:32] Speaker B: Peace. [00:43:38] Speaker A: It.
